Grief Services
The loss of a family member or friend may be overwhelming, particularly when sudden and unexpected. The following support groups offer counseling and assistance for those in need.

New Hope's mission is to help grieving people find hope and healing. We are a 501(c)3 Tax Exempt Organization.

In 1986 Susan was a nurse on the cancer-leukemia ward at Long Beach Veterans Hospital. Each time her precious patients died, Susan was exposed to grief and loss as she witnessed the families in despair. At the time resources for her grieving families were minimal in Long Beach. A heavy burden was laid on Susan's heart to support these grieving families and pursue a greater understanding of grief education and helpful support. Read More...

The OUR HOUSE mission is to provide the community with grief support services, education, resources, and hope. For fifteen years, OUR HOUSE has helped thousands of grieving children, teens, and adults as they embark upon their journeys to hope and healing

Over 190 professionally trained and supervised volunteers contribute more than 17,000 volunteer hours annually to OUR HOUSE. They bring empathy, understanding, and hope to grieving adults, teens, and children. Read More...

Grief often impacts multiple domains of life manifesting itself in many ways. Hope Hospice offers a variety of resources to help navigate through your unique grief journey. The Grief Support Center's (GSC) goal is to help you understand the nuances of grief as well as to learn healthy coping skills. Our programs offer opportunities for individuals of all ages to explore issues around their grieving process as well as sharing with others who are experiencing similar feelings.

It is not necessary to be a Hope Hospice patient family member to participate in our support and educational programs. They are available to the entire community at minimal or no cost. Please contact us at (925) 829-8770 and ask to speak to someone in the Grief Support Center. Read More...

Grief Support is a support group for those who have lost a loved one, to help them work through their grief. Meets in cycles of six sessions at a time on Sunday mornings No-fee Bereavement Counseling Group meets on Sundays from 11:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. where they find understanding and fellowship and discover a new hope and strength. In the line of duty

AFP&CC

The American Federation of Police and Concerned Citizens (AFP&CC) offers a number of programs and services that support the law enforcement community and specifically the surviving families of officers killed in the line of duty.

Nearly every day, AFP&CC receives a phone call, sees a news report or opens a personal letter and learns of an other fallen hero who has sacrificed his or her life in the line of duty somewhere in the United States. As heart wrenching as this news is for our organization, it is even more devastating to the fallen officer's family and loved ones. The sorrow can be unmanageable and the grief overpowering for spouses, children, siblings and parents. AFP&CC helps to ease the suffering of survivor families by funding professional counseling on an as needed basis to allow the survivors to cope with their pain. Read More...
